The Field Operations Division performs the uniformed patrol functions including responding to calls for service, 100 dispatch, K-9 operations, intelligence led policing, and criminal warrant operations. The division also includes the Court Services Division which performs the court security, civil and criminal process functions for the sheriff’s office. Additional duties include servicing the Superior, State, Probate, Magistrate, Juvenile, Civil courts and providing physical security to all the governmental offices within the courthouse. The Field Operations Division is headed by Major Scott Deason who is directly accountable to the Sheriff.
Major Scott Deason, a graduate of Leadership Baldwin and John Milledge Academy, began working at the Sheriff’s Office in 1996 as a deputy. He has worked as an investigator and previously served as the patrol commander. He began overseeing the court services division in 2006. Major Deason is a general instructor, hostage negotiator, and a Taser instructor. During his law enforcement mandate class, Major Deason received the firearms trophy. He was recently featured in the Milledgeville Scene’s “20 Under 40” profile, which recognizes 20 professionals in their respective occupations. He is a graduate from Georgia Military College where he received an Associate degree in Criminal Justice.
