Two hundred and fifty-five law enforcement officers graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, on June 18th. The 298th session of the National Academy consisted of men and women from 46 states and the District of Columbia. The class also included 29 international members of law enforcement agencies from 26 countries, five military organizations, and four federal civilian organizations.
Internationally recognized for its academic excellence, the FBI National Academy provides 10 weeks of advanced communication, leadership, and fitness training. Selection for this prestigious program is highly competitive—only approximately 1% of law enforcement officers worldwide are chosen to attend. Participants must hold proven records of professional excellence within their agencies. On average, officers graduating from the Academy have 21 years of law enforcement experience and typically return to their agencies to serve in executive-level positions.
FBI Director Kash Patel served as the keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony.
FBI Academy instructors, special agents, and other staff with advanced degrees provide the training; many instructors are recognized internationally in their fields. Since 1972, National Academy students have been able to earn undergraduate and graduate credits from the University of Virginia, which accredits all National Academy courses offered.

The Georgia Southern University Police Department recently hosted the Office of Public Safety Support (OPSS) 40-Hour Peer Support Counselor Certification Course, and we are proud to recognize Lieutenant Deidre Byrd for successfully completing this important training. This flag representing their class session is presented to the most well-rounded candidate in each class. Deputy Pearson is a well-known athlete and competes in world and national softball events. While previously employed with us, Deputy Pearson was twice awarded the Most Valuable Player designation in two World Softball events. She also served as a community coach with a local team and provided individual training for many young athletes.
